Incognito’s advice

Hello MysteryLAN paricipants!

With the MysteryLAN in our scopes and preparations rounding up we are here to give you the last tips and tricks for the ultimate MysteryLAN experience! We will provide you a list of games that might be a good idea to have pre-installed and other practicalities.

In this post:

  • Games recommended to have pre-installed.
  • Food and drinks.
  • Things you should know before you go.

Pre-installing Games

Every year we see a variety of games being played on the LAN. In order to allow you to be prepared as good as possible we will give you an overview of games that are frequently played. Do note that this is not a guarantee that the actual game will be played, so if you do not own the game we do not recommend buying it specifically for this LAN!

  • League of Legends (competition!)
  • HearthStone (competition!)
  • Track Mania Nations
  • Garry’s Mod
  • Call of Duty 4 (competition!)
  • Team Fortress 2
  • Warcraft 3
  • Unreal Tournament 2004

In the unfortunate event where you do not already have a game installed we will provide several games ready to download. Most of these are steam backups, but will also include full installations of free games!

If you have any additions to this list, we would be happy to know! You can contact Pieter Schaap of the MysteryLAN crew directly or send an email to hacKErs@msvincognito.nl.

Food and drinks

Due to the unpopularity of the breakfast the past years we will not provide you with a breakfast but lowered the entree fee instead. We will provide some snacks throughout the LAN but they will not suffice as a meal. Therefore we advice to bring a decent meal to the LAN. Alternatively you can buy meals from the Jumbo nearby. (a rough 5 minute walk).
On location we have a microwave (Not an oven combi!), and a water boiler.
These can be used for for example foods like instant noodles, microwave meals and other nutritional meals.
From experience we can advice you to bring a good decent meal as it really makes a difference!

And don’t forget this!

Make sure you bring a long LAN cable! (at least 10 meters!)
If you plan to sleep over at the location we recommend bringing a sleeping bag and inflatable bed. (And don’t forget to make sure someone brings a pump!).

If anything remains unclear do not hesitate to contact us by sending an email to hacKErs@msvincognito.nl  or contacting a member of incognito’s IT-Committee directly (hacKErs).

Oh yes!

Dear MysteryLAN participants,

Now that the first of april 2015 is officially in the past we will officially confirm that this message was an april’s fool.
We want to assure you that all preparation for the LAN are on schedule and of course there were no incidents regarding financial issues. I hope that those of you who were (rightfully so) angry regarding this news, that you will be able to forgive us for this shenanigan.
If anything remains unclear or you have concerns about the organization of the oncoming MysteryLAN or remarks on previous LANs feel free to contact us at hacKErs@msvincognito.nl or contact one of incognito’s IT-committee members.

Then last but not least it rests with me to apologize to those severely offended by our act and beg of you to forgive us for this horrendous crime against ethics.

I will leave the original message below here, only will it be striked-through to avoid confusion:

The past weeks we have been very busy with the organisation and preparation of another MysteryLAN event. We have set all effort on maintaining a high quality entertainment event and at the same time lowering the price of the MysteryLAN. Naturally this poses a big challenge for Incognito’s IT-committee.

In spite of our efforts we will not manage to host another MysteryLAN event this year. The main reason for this cancellation are various economical setbacks. It goes without saying that in our initial planning we reserved funds for these kind of problems as any organisation should. The problem that we are facing is that the cumulative loss on these setbacks far exceeds our built in threshold.

As a result of this we will have to cancel the oncoming MysteryLAN event.

Our sincere apologies for this inconvenience.

What does this mean for you?
First off, we do not have the time or funds to organize an alternative LAN this year, however next year we will promise to host another LAN.

Regarding refunds and costs, we simply ran out of money. This means that we will not issue refunds, referring to the user agreement on signing up.
If you haven’t paid yet we urge you to do so as you are still obliged to follow the user agreement. We have already made costs depending on your subscription and therefore need your money to pay for any debts made. Again, referring to the user agreement that was accepted on subscription for this event, you still have to pay before the date of the original beginning of this event (April 17th 2015).
If you refrain from doing so, any additional costs resulting from the turning down of your obligations towards us will be charged in addition to the original event fee.

If any questions remain, please send an e-mail to hacKErs@msvincognito.nl.

Again our apologies and we hope to see you on the next LAN in the next academic year!

– The MysteryLAN crew.

Sold out!

Hello!

For the unfortunate among us that have not yet signed up, I have grave news. As of today registrations have closed as the number of reserved places have been exceeded. We will see if we can open additional places although we can not promise that we will succeed! Our apologies for this inconvenience.
More updates on this will follow later, so keep an eye on the mysteryLAN website!

Update: If you want to be eligible for an additional spot contact someone from Incognito’s IT Committee or send an e-mail to hacKErs@msvincognito.nl. This way we can contact you If additional slots come free or a participant cancels!

Furthermore we would like to wish you all the best of luck in the coming exam week! See you in block 5!

– The MysteryLAN Crew.
